Tourist spending in Singapore is expected to climb an average of nine percent to S$2381 in the next two years, according to a global travel intentions survey conducted by Visa.
The survey, which polled around 10,000 respondents from 23 different countries, found that Indians are most likely to travel to Singapore, closely followed by visitors from China and Malaysia.
“Singapore has great cultural diversity with a varied population which makes it a very desirable destination for travellers from different cultures and different parts of the world,” noted a Visa spokesman.
He added that Singapore’s branding as a ‘shopping paradise‘ had also worked in attracting tourists to return and do some ‘great shopping’.
The survey’s findings disclosed that having political stability, natural scenery and good travel deals are vital factors that potential tourists to Singapore consider when choosing a travel destination.
Around 60 percent of the respondents stated that they are also willing to pay more to enjoy hassle free services and good quality food.
In terms of trends, the study noted that 41 percent of inbound travellers to Singapore prefer directly liaising with airlines and hotels when making travel arrangements.
Another 32 percent of the respondents stated that the next best way to travel is to get versatile tour packages that allow travellers to arrange their itinerary at their own discretion. This is then followed by packaged group tours that are preferred by 20 percent of those surveyed.
