New JTC factories, a boon for S'pore firms

JTC Corporation’s next generation factories in Tanjong Kling enables small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to boost their production capacity and expand into higher value-added activities, according to Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

He said this during a visit to two local companies operating in JTC Space @ Tanjong Kling, which houses 18 three-storey factories. Mr Tharman was accompanied by the National Productivity and Continuing Education Council (NPCEC).

“The JTC Space @ Tanjong Kling, with its unique structural features, has enabled companies like Chan Kian and Delta Optics to configure their own space and integrate their processes over multiple floors. It also allows them to grow by building new capabilities and expanding into higher value-added activities.”

Moreover, firms operating at the said industrial park enjoy lower land rental without sacrificing their gross floor area (GFA) because they have the flexibility to install their preferred material handling systems between floors. Hence, operations can now be integrated over multiple floors and space can be optimally used.

At present 15 of the 18 factories are occupied. JTC also plans build an improved version of premises, which are known as Small Footprint Standard Factories.

Notably, Mr Tharman graced the working area of Chan Kian Metal Works, a firm that designs and fabricates hydraulic manifolds used in offshore / marine equipment such as cranes and automated process systems. He also went to the site of Delta Optics, a company involved in the ultra-precision machining of optical mould inserts used in plastic injection moulding of lens for the Optics and Consumer Electronics industries.

The visit was organised as part of the “Way to Go Singapore!” campaign, a national outreach effort under NPCEC that aims to boost productivity in Singapore.
