The Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s (A*STAR) Advanced Remanufacturing Technology Centre (ARTC) and JTC Corporation’s CleanTech Two building opened its doors Wednesday (28 January), joining in Singapore’s first eco-business park, CleanTech Park.
The first-of-its-kind in the region dedicated to test-bedding and development of remanufacturing technologies through a public-private partnership approach, ARTC is a strategic partnership with Nanyang Technological University. The centre is said to be the building’s anchor tenant.
Dr David Low, Chief Executive Officer of ARTC, said, “ARTC is the first centre in Asia that adopts the AxRC model of industry-led public-private partnership across sectors and supply chains. Through this unique collaborative model, like-minded companies come together at ARTC to provide the real industry requirements, spark new ideas, catalyse new opportunities, leverage on shared-resources and accelerate the development of remanufacturing capabilities in a faster, better and cheaper way than doing it alone.”
The opening of the centre was witnessed Mr S Iswaran, Second Minister for Trade and Industry and Home Affairs, who was the event’s guest-of-honour.
He said: “CleanTech Two and ARTC will deepen the Government’s efforts to strengthen our capabilities in these two areas. CleanTech Two will offer 22,000 square metres of specially designed laboratory and office space to support the R&D efforts of key Cleantech companies.”
“ARTC will be a game-changer for the Remanufacturing sector in Singapore. It seeks to develop capabilities which will help companies in the aerospace, oil and gas, energy and automotive industries tackle the challenges of high component costs through remanufacturing,” he added.
Since the launch in 2012, the ARTC has 29 members on board including EOS GmbH, IHI Corporation, Rolls-Royce PLC, Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL), Siemens Industry Software, and SKF, as well as 12 local SMEs.
