JTC will build a specialised hub at Sungei Kadut to support Singapore’s furniture industry, according to Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Senior Minister of State for National Development, Lee Yi Shyan.
Known as JTC Furniture Hub @ Sungei Kadut, the development is touted as the first high-rise and multi-tenanted project that will bring together furniture firms and related service providers.
Due to this convenient set up, these companies can “improve their business process to maximise operational efficiency,” Mr Lee said during the opening of the 32nd ASEAN Furniture Show (AFS) and 2015 International Furniture Fair Singapore (IFFS) last week.
Moreover, the hub will come with a training institute, a design lab and a showroom, all of which will be overseen by the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC), added Mr Lee.
The establishment of a furniture hub is in line with JTC’s goal of building a new generation of industrial space with shared facilities to promote various local businesses. For example, firms occupying its new food hub can use the shared cold room warehouse.
Meanwhile, Mr Lee noted that Singapore’s furniture industry has maintained a healthy growth rate in the past years thanks to constant upgrading efforts, as well as by making their products more sought-after by focusing on design and branding.
In 2014, the sector’s revenue increased by 2.8 percent to approximately S$6.3 billion.
