Master plan for Andhra Pradesh capital ready

Singapore has completed the master plan for the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh, according to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and reported in the media.

The master plan will be used until 2050 to lead the development of Amravati, the capital of the Indian state, situated on the banks of the Krishna River between the cities of Guntur and Vijayawada.

It lays out the location of the capital’s central business district, industrial parks and commercial zones in town centres.

It also envisages a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system which would eventually be turned into a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system.

Aside from a network of walkways, biking trails and local waterways, Amravati will also have gardens, parks and recreational facilities such as a cricket stadium.

The plan also outlines infrastructure for delivering water and electricity, as well as the facilities for managing sewerage and solid waste.

In line with this, Swachh Andhra Corporation and the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) have teamed up to create a framework for an integrated solid waste management master plan for the Indian state.

To craft the framework, SCE will collaborate with Singapore’s Centre of Liveable Cities. It will also hold two advisory workshops to consult key local officials in Andhra Pradesh.

The framework is expected to be delivered in three months.
