Popular dance club Zouk will relocate to Clarke Quay, ending months of speculation about the club’s new location after the URA granted its final tenancy extension at Jiak Kim Street last year.
According to CapitaLand—owner and manager of Clarke Quay—the club will take up 31,000 sq ft of space in Block C that was formerly occupied by F&B firm LifeBrandz, owner of nightspots like Fenix Room, Ministry of Sound and Zirca.
S$10 million will be invested in the 24-year-old dance club which targets to begin operations at its new location beginning June 2016.
Zouk will cease operations at its current location, and home since 1991, at Jiak Kim Street in May next year. It is noted that the Urban Redevelopment Authority granted Zouk its final tenancy extension last year as the dance club was incompatible with the plan for the Robertson Quay area which is likely to see more residential developments.
“We’ve considered every potential venue very carefully – from its location and accessibility to the cost of building it up, and of course whether or not it was feasible for the venue considered to house a superclub,” said Zouk Founder Lincoln Cheng. “We identified Clarke Quay as being the most ideal venue for us to grow our new roots at,” he added.
