Japan’s Toll Group has recently held the ground-breaking ceremony for its US$166.4 million (S$228 million) logistics facility at Tuas in Singapore, according to a company press release.
Dubbed as Toll City, the five storey ramp-up integrated warehouse with an area of 100,000 sq m will feature a hi-tech automated supply chain management system.
“Toll City is one of Toll’s largest facility investments in Asia. It is testament to Toll’s confidence in Singapore as a choice location for third-party logistics providers to support their clients’ growth in Asia and beyond,” said Minister of State for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck who was a guest-of-honour during the event held on Monday.
Mr Teo also pledged that the authorities will continue to support the development of the logistics sector by encouraging companies to build best-in-class facilities.
Meanwhile, Toll Global Logistics CEO Chris Pearce said that the anticipated completion of Toll City by mid-2017 is expected to strengthen Singapore’s status as a regional logistics hub. The start of its construction is also well-timed as the city-state is in the midst of upgrading its western port.
“Toll City’s proximity to road links to Malaysia and the growing Jurong region makes the facility an excellent land-sea interface for customers. It also coincides with the planned 2020 completion of Tuas Port, which will consolidate all of Singapore’s container operations in one terminal and handle up to 65 million TEUs (twenty feet equivalent units) per year when fully operational,” added the company.
