The Union of International Associations named the city-state as the top international meeting city for the eighth year running, while International Congress and Convention Association listed it at the top of Asia Pacific cities for the 13th consecutive year.
“The accolade is not only a validation of the strength of Singapore’s MICE industry but also a reminder that Singapore needs to continuously up its game in light of the increased competition,” said Ms Neeta Lachmandas, Assistant Chief Executive (Business Development), Singapore Tourism Board.
“While we are humbled that Singapore remains the Asian destination of choice for event owners, we will continue to enhance our vibrant MICE ecosystem further for a more remarkable experience for business visitors.”
The STB also cited two high-level event to be held within the republic – the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Conference in 2019 and the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) World Congress for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering in 2021.
The two events are expected to attract a crowd of around 3,000 overseas attendees, made up of professionals from the nursing industry, as well as biomedical engineers and medical physicists respectively.
“With Singapore’s strategic location in the heart of the region, our commitment towards reaching out to developing countries in advancing the physical and engineering sciences in medicine will be greatly enhanced,” said Professor Herbert F. Voigt, IUPESM’s Immediate Past President.
“Also, the Republic’s status as Asia’s fastest-growing bio-medical cluster makes it an ideal destination for the IUPESM 2021 World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering.”
