Ascendas-Singbridge has completed its first Fibre Ready Scheme (FRS) installation at Ascent, a seven-storey integrated business park, retail, and food and beverage development located at Singapore Science Park.
This is largest commercial deployment under the FRS, a programme launched by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in 2014 to help commercial building owners enhance the telecommunication infrastructure of their buildings.
Singapore telecommunication company M1, Ascendas-Singbridge’s FRS partner, will install and enhance the telecommunication and fibre infrastructure at 70 commercial buildings under the Ascendas-Singbridge group in Singapore.
By 2018, the tenants at these commercial buildings will benefit significantly from the enhanced infrastructure that would allow expedient access to fibre broadband services.
Before the FRS, fibre service providers that sign up a customer in a commercial building would normally engage a contractor to provide the necessary fibre assets and equipment on an individual, ad-hoc basis.
With the FRS, aside from making fibre services more accessible to businesses, such a centrally-managed one-time deployment model also minimise disruption to building and business operations as well as reduces future maintenance and operational complexities.
“In today’s digital economy, access to cost-effective high-speed fibre connectivity is a very important consideration for Singapore businesses looking to grow and compete on the global stage,” said Tan Yew Chin, chief executive officer for Singapore and Southeast Asia at Ascendas-Singbridge Group.
“The FRS is part of our continuous product enhancement initiatives and it results in a faster turnaround time for our customers applying for fibre broadband services,” Tan added.

According to the IMDA, aside from the group’s 70 buildings, close to 200 building have applied for FRS to date.
“We would strongly encourage more commercial building developers and owners to leverage on the FRS to enhance and future-proof its buildings’ fibre infrastructure before the programme and funding ends in March 2018,” he added.
Some 47 buildings have completed installation under the FRS to date. These include Far East Plaza, West Coast Plaza and Novena Specialist Centre.
