After 31 years in business, Funan DigitaLife Mall finally closed its doors yesterday to make way for three years of redevelopment works.
CapitaLand’s senior management celebrated the mall’s milestone by hosting a Thank You Party at Funan’s Main Atrium for some 400 invited guests, including tenants, loyal shoppers, and mall staff.
In an SGX filing, CapitaLand noted that the IT mall holds a special place in the hearts of Singaporeans.
“Funan has become the icon it is today because of the passion of its people, including shoppers, tenants and staff,” said Wilson Tan, Chief Executive Officer of CapitaLand Mall Trust (CMT) Management.
“The new Funan will continue this lineage and strive to be a dynamic mall that enables and supports the passions of the communities it serves. Technology has always been a big part of Funan and we will build on that legacy, moving from just selling IT products to enriching people’s lives with technology.”
In view of the recent revitalisation of the Civic and Cultural District where the mall is situated, Funan has been earmarked by its owner CMT to be redeveloped into an 870,000 sq ft integrated development, almost double its current size.
