Fire broke out at JEM mall’s Burger King outlet on Tuesday (19 Jul) night, which resulted in the emergency evacuation of shoppers and cinema-goers. No injuries were reported.
According to Singapore Civil Defense Force’s Facebook post, the mall’s management initiated a phased evacuation as a precautionary measure. The fire, which was confined to the kitchen at the fast-food outlet located at JEM’s basement one, was extinguished by the sprinkler system before SCDF’s arrival, it said.
SCDF added that it is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
This is the latest in the string of incidents at the Jurong East shopping mall. Earlier in January, a fire also broke out at JEM.
JEM is owned and managed by developer Lend Lease.
