Ground broken for former CPF building

Ascendas-Singbridge Group on Friday (3 March) marked the redevelopment of the former CPF building at 79 Robinson Road with a ground-breaking ceremony involving joint venture partners Mitsui and Tokyo Tatemono.

The CPF building will be redeveloped by Ascendas-Singbridge and a consortium formed by Mitsui and Tokyo Tatemono into a 29-storey Grade A office tower with F&B components (pictured). With a net lettable area of around 500,000 sq ft, the 180m tall development will feature “regular, column-free floor plates ranging from 21,000 to 23,000 sq ft”.

Ascendas revealed that design firm Gensler and DCA Architect collaborated to conceptualise the development, which will offer seamless connectivity via an underground pass to the Tanjong Pagar MRT station.

Incorporating Gensler’s trademark “occupier-driven design philosophy to build a modern workplace that caters to users’ changing needs and requirements”, the development will also feature secured “end-of-trip-facilities” for bicycles and personal mobility devices with supporting amenities like shower facilities and locker rooms.

Miguel Ko, Group CEO of Ascendas-Singbridge, believes the “simulated kinetic nature of the new building’s façade will be an aesthetic differentiator, creating another memorable landmark in the skyline of Singapore’s CBD”.

“This project is a new milestone for Ascendas-Singbridge as we mark our foray into Singapore’s CBD with our first office tower,” he said.

“When completed, the new 79 Robinson Road development will inject a fresh supply of innovative, quality work spaces that will cater to the evolving needs of a new generation of business owners and talents.”

The project is set to launch in 2018 and is expected to obtain its TOP by 2020.
