Overall, Maxwell Chamber Suites will have around 50 new offices for international dispute resolution, law firms, arbitration chambers and ancillary legal services across four floors.
A second annexe block will be built at 28 Maxwell Road, adding 3,500 sq ft on the originally planned expansion of 120,000 sq ft, announced the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) on Thursday.
The additional space comes as the conserved building witnessed strong demand for office space. In fact, 65 percent of its new office space has already been taken up even before the start of refurbishment works, reported Business Times.
Senior Minister of State for law and finance Indranee Rajah also revealed that 28 Maxwell Road has been renamed Maxwell Chamber Suites to reflect its role as the address of major dispute resolution players, both international and local.
Upon its completion in 2019, Maxwell Chamber Suites will also feature a 24-hour thoroughfare.
“This public thoroughfare will enhance the pedestrian network in the area, and better link Maxwell Road and the upcoming Maxwell MRT Station with the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station,” said Indranee as quoted by Today Online.

With this, existing tenants, such as The Arbitration Chambers and One Essex Court, increased their floor plates by more than two-fold.
MinLaw announced in January that it would be taking over the former Red Dot Traffic Building for the expansion of Maxwell Chambers.
