Ascendas-Singbridge Group said it has started construction of the China-Singapore International Smart Industrial Park within China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC), a project previously known as the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City that was elevated into a state-level bilateral project in November.
The China-Singapore International Smart Industrial Park is being developed and will be run by Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Investment and Development (GKC Co.). This is a joint venture between China’s Guangzhou Development District Administrative Committee and Singapore’s Ascendas-Singbridge Group, which is jointly owned by Temasek Holdings and JTC Corporation.
Situated within the southern start-up area in CSGKC, the industrial park is targeted to be completed by 2020. It has an overall built-up area of 177,800 sq m and has attracted total investments of more than RMB1.4 billion (approx. S$280 million).
“The development of the industrial park is a key milestone for CSGKC, and further deepens the cooperation between Ascendas-Singbridge Group and our Chinese partners,” said CSGKC Chairman Nina Yang, who is also Ascendas-Singbridge Group’s CEO for Sustainable Urban Development.
“We believe that it will provide a conducive environment for local and international enterprises to create and implement innovative, smart city solutions. This will further enhance CSGKC’s role in contributing to the development and transformation of the Greater Bay Area into a thriving, globally competitive business and economic hub.”
The China-Singapore International Smart Industrial Park will focus on developing a new generation of industry clusters leveraging on big data, cloud technology and the Internet of Things. In particular, it will be used for creating applications and solutions for smart homes, as well as offices, medical services and cities of the future.
For instance, the park’s Phase I, the 5,000 sq m Twin Crystal, will house Siemens’ first Green City Digital Centre in Asia Pacific.
It will also come with a Future City Exhibition and Experiential Zone, plus a Centre of Excellence for Software Transfer for training and talent development, along with a one-stop corporate service centre and a multi-purpose lecture hall that can accommodate 300 people.
The park will also be home to the Sino-Singapore International Joint Research Institute, a 23,000 sq m development spearheaded by Nanyang Technological University, South China University of Technology, SSGKC Administrative Committee and GKC Co. Since its founding, the institute has received funding of around RMB250 million from Guangzhou City and Guangzhou Development District to carry out over 20 R&D projects.
Furthermore, the China-Singapore International Smart Industrial Park will feature co-working spaces, a global innovation incubator and office spaces designed for various smart industries.
Since its launch in 2010, CSGKC has made significant progress, with over 1,300 registered firms with a combined registered capital of RMB33.8 billion committing to operate there as of October.
