CapitaLand announced on Thursday (5 Apr) that it plans to progressively introduce an all-in-one ePayment service known as StarPay across 17 of its local malls, starting with Raffles City Singapore on 18 April, according to an SGX filing.
In line with this, the company will install smart terminals in over 2,500 stores, enabling clients to shop with credit and debit cards, QR codes, as well as local and international payment apps.
To be rolled out by end-2018, these terminals can be easily modified to include additional features and accept other ePayment modes. During the launch promotion this month, American Express cardholders will be the first to use StarPay.
Alipay, GrabPay, NETSPay and DBS PayLah! will be added to StarPay in phases from May, while other ePayment modes will be incorporated by year-end.
Shoppers can use StarPay via the CapitaStar app. For retailers, the ePayment service is a part of the CapitaLand Digital Merchant Services Suite (DMSS).
“To provide better experiences for our customers, we have developed CapitaLand DMSS – a series of digital enablers to help our retailers digitalise their interactions with shoppers in the areas of transactions, rewards and operations. The system, through data analytics, provides us with a unified view of the shopper-retailer-mall ecosystem,” said CapitaLand President and Group CEO Lim Ming Yan.
“Ultimately, we want to create a seamless experience where it is easier for our shoppers to find what they want, pay for the item in any preferred mode of payment, be rewarded instantly with STAR$® and enjoy better customer service round the clock.”
Using StarPay, the 880,000 CapitaStar members in Singapore will automatically get STAR$® when they spend at least $1. This is in addition to any in-store and ePayment rewards.
During the launch promo, CapitaStar members who utilise StarPay will get bonus rewards of up to five times STAR$ when they transact with any eligible American Express card. They will obtain even greater rewards of up to eight times STAR$® when they use the American Express CapitaCard on StarPay.
