JTC has joined forces with ST Engineering to design, develop and deploy an Open Digital Platform in Singapore’s 50ha Punggol Digital District (PDD), according to a press release on Tuesday (10 July).
Under the agreement, both parties will equally co-invest in this endeavour that will see the integration of all smart city solution across the district to this platform.
In January, the government launched PDD’s masterplan, with construction starting this year. This district is the first to adopt an integrated masterplan approach that brings together a university, communal facilities and a business park, which will house key growth sectors in the digital economy. It will also feature Singapore’s most high-tech school campus.
Unlike existing business parks and large-scale districts, where physical infrastructure and digital solutions are created separately, PDD will be fully integrated with digital infrastructure starting from the physical planning and development of the district.
Notably, the Open Digital Platform will encompass all of PDD’s smart city solutions, including its facilities, carparks system, traffic lights system, autonomous vehicles, district cooling system, access and security systems, autonomous goods delivery systems, pneumatic waste conveyancing system, as well as building and estate management systems.
The full integration into one platform will enable centralised management of all the district’s operations. Real-time access to data via sensors and smart devices on what is occurring around PDD, coupled with predictive analytics, will also allow estate managers to quickly identify and react to potential problems.
Moreover, the platform will be interoperable with GovTech’s Smart Nation Sensor Platform that allows sharing of data with public agencies to enhance the planning and provision of government services.
PDD’s smart technologies include biometric security system for tenants, while visitors can gain access to facilities by tapping their smartphones.
Aside from reducing the costs of tenants in JTC’s Business Park, data from the Open Digital Platform will be shared with academics, researchers, companies and startups so that they can develop digital applications and urban solutions for the community.
“The Open Digital Platform in Punggol Digital District will be the first in Singapore. Besides making our work more efficient, we hope it can also enhance the convenience and experience of people working in the district,” said JTC’s CEO Ng Lang.
“Businesses, workers, researchers, students and the general public, innovators can plug in to the platform to access and use the data and analytics to develop solutions that will benefit the community. This also creates in Punggol Digital District an environment of innovation and collaboration that is instrumental for the digital economy.”
Furthermore, a digital replica of PDD will be made available for the safe testing of smart solutions before their actual implementation. Some technologies in the platform will first be tested at one-north, then deployed in the district by 2023.
JTC and ST Engineering will also explore the introduction of the Open Digital Platform in other districts such as Jurong Innovation District.
