Tekka Place, a hospitality and retail integrated development at 2 Serangoon Road in Little India, is on track for opening in the fourth quarter of 2019.
In fact, close to 50 percent of the net lettable space of the upcoming integrated development has already been committed or under advanced negotiations, revealed developers Lum Chang Holdings and LaSalle Investment Management at the project’s topping out ceremony.
Comprising a 10-storey main block and seven-storey annex, the development includes 320 serviced residences, an outdoor rooftop area for F&B outlets as well as 80 retail shops.
With the completion of structural works, the developers said they will now focus on the architectural and services works of the development.
“We are excited about the myriad of possibilities that Tekka Place will bring to Little India,” said Kelvin Lum, director at Lum Chang Holdings and a spokesperson for the joint venture.
“Even though we have been approached by reputable local and international retail and F&B brands, we are selective in curating Tekka Place’s retail mix to both reflect and build on the unique cultural identity of the Little India heritage precinct, and to complement the shopkeeper businesses in the area.”
Spread over 10,000 sq ft in the mall is XinTekka, a food hall run by Andrew Tan, who previously introduced fresh concepts like PasarBella and Japanese eatery Eat at Seven to Singapore.
“XinTekka is a platform to showcase local food and products, past and present. It will offer reinterpretations of traditional local dishes that will renew our love for our iconic local food,” said Tan. “It aims to create an eclectic, walkable urban adventure, with something for everyone while simultaneously serving as an incubator for local talent and independent start-ups.”
The developers have also partnered with the Singapore Tourism Board and local stakeholders such as LASALLE College of the Arts to celebrate Little India’s rich heritage.
Rajakumar Chandra, chairman of the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA), noted: “Since the start, the owners have been proactively engaging LISHA, seeking our feedback and providing regular project updates.
“We very much look forward to the forthcoming completion of Tekka Place, which will add to the revitalisation of the precinct as well as the dynamism of Little India,” he said.
