Swedish home furnishing store IKEA is set to open a new small-store concept at Jem next year.
The first of its kind in Southeast Asia, the new small-store concept will have a total area of 6,500 sq m as it occupy three floors at the shopping mall, reported CNA.
It will be IKEA’s third outlet in Singapore, with the other two located in Alexandra and Tampines. These two outlets attract close to seven million visits per year.
A spokesperson for the mall’s landlord, Lendlease, revealed that IKEA will be replacing Robinsons, which will close its outlet at Jem by end-August.
IKEA’s Retail Director for Singapore and Vietnam Jaap Doornbos said this is the first time the Swedish firm is establishing a smaller store format as a tenant in a shopping centre within the region.
And while the store will not feature the built-in warehouse or playground like the other two main branches, customers will find it easier to shop there as it will be organised in a new way by combining everything the brand offers at each of the home’s core area into one department.
The store will also feature the famous IKEA Restaurant, where customers can order delicious Swedish meatballs, sustainable seafood and fried chicken wings.
“There are only a few other IKEA stores like it in the world today! It will be easier than ever for people to just pop in for some inspiration, home furnishing products and, of course, our Swedish meatballs,” said Doornbos.
