Lendlease has launched its Mission Zero Roadmap for Asia as it moves towards achieving its goal of net zero by 2025 and absolute-zero carbon by 2040, reported Singapore Business Review (SBR).
The company outlined the steps to achieving the goal in its roadmap, which includes reducing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions across its assets.
Scope 1 emissions refer to direct emissions coming from Lendlease-owned and controlled resources. These emissions are produced directly from fuels burnt.
Lendlease intends to combat this by turning to alternative onsite fuels as well as increasing the use of electric construction plants.
Scope 2 emissions, on the other hand, refer to indirect emissions coming from the generation of acquired energy from a utility provider.
To reduce this, the company plans to increase renewable energy to 100% by 2030, increase onsite solar generation on assets and integrate renewable energy infrastructure on its new developments.
Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions that occur downstream and upstream of Lendlease’s value chain via a review of materials and services procured.
To combat this, Lendlease has set up initiatives, which include investing in research and development as well as collaborating with suppliers to eliminate embodied carbons within construction materials. Moreover, tenants will partner with the company to lower their emissions while developing next-generation green leases.
