Singapore’s first-its-kind multi-tenanted development that integrates the entire value chains of companies within the surface engineering industry, JTC Surface Engineering Hub, was officially opened on Thursday (9 October).
The S$59 million project sits on a 1.9 hectare site at the heart of the newly redeveloped Tanjong Kling estate which was redeveloped by JTC to create new work spaces.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Lim Hng Kiang said: “As Singapore continues to grow key manufacturing industry clusters, such as aerospace, clean technology, offshore marine and logistics, we must continue to find creative ways to overcome our land constraints. One strategy is to achieve higher land productivity by redeveloping areas with lower intensity use. Tanjong Kling exemplifies this approach,” adding that the estate has become a node for more innovation-intensive manufacturing activities.
A key feature of the Hub is its centralised wastewater treatment plant (CWTP), which helps companies involved in surface engineering activities to reduce space requirements, operational costs and upfront capital investment that enable them to have a quick start-up.
JTC Chief Executive Officer, Png Cheong Boon, said, “JTC understands the challenges of surface engineering companies, which typically need land-based facilities to build their own wastewater treatment plants. The CWTP at the [hub] eliminates this need, and enables companies to save upfront and operational costs, and swiftly start their operations. Companies can also take this opportunity to focus on raising their operational efficiency, productivity and competitiveness.”
