Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) will invest S$400 million in a new data centre (pictured) in Jurong to meet the growing demand for co-location and cloud services within the city-state.
“This new data centre is designed to meet the critical hosting needs of the financial services industry, government agencies, and cloud and Internet service providers,” said Singtel executive officer for Group Enterprise, Bill Chang.
“It enables Singtel to attract and host world-class cloud players in Singapore and position the country as a global hub for cloud computing and innovation.”
The Tier 3-Plus data centre will offer secure, high-grade private and co-location data hosting capabilities. It can also host new technologies like cloud solutions, smart applications as well as different platforms for analytics.
Set to be completed in Q3 2016, the new facility will have an approximate gross floor area of 570,000 sq ft and a total power capacity of 36 megawatts. It will also feature an integrated climate control system as well as a critical cooling system using recycled NEWater.
The new data centre will be Singtel’s 13th in the Asia Pacific – nine in Singapore and two each in Australia and Hong Kong.
“This enlarged footprint enables businesses to use Singtel’s regional hosting capabilities to grow and connect their operations within Singapore and the region, seamlessly,” added Chang.
