Google is constructing another data centre in Singapore adjacent to the first one it built in 2011, according to the tech giant’s official blog post.
Located in Jurong, the five-storey facility sits on a land spanning more than two hectares. Piling works have started and the building is expected to be completed by mid-2017.
“This new facility will be built on the same principles as the old one. It will be one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly sites in Asia, using 100 percent recycled water for its critical operations” wrote Joe Kava, Google’s Vice President for Data Centres.
“This expansion takes our long-term investment in our Singapore data centre to US$500 million (S$ 677.7 million) and our long-term investment in data centres in Asia as a whole to over US$1 billion (S$1.36 billion),” Kava added.

The new facility will be built next to Google’s firs data centre here, which sits on a 2.45ha land and cost US$120 million (S$ 162.65 million) to build.
Singapore, which houses the tech giant’s first multi-storey data centres, is one of only two locations for Google’s data centres in Asia.
