Air travellers voted Singapore Changi Airport as the world’s best airport for the fourth consecutive year at Skytrax’s 2016 World Airport Awards.
The airport has been voted as world’s best for seven times in 16 years. It was also awarded Best Airport for Leisure Amenities at the awards ceremony held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Cologne, Germany.
Changi Airport beat South Korea’s Incheon International Airport and Munich Airport in Germany, which ranked second and third on the top 10 airports list. Completing the list are Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) in fourth place, Hong Kong International Airport in fifth, followed by Chubu Centrair Nagoya and Zurich Airport. Heathrow Airport in London, Kansai International Airport and Hamad International Airport ranked eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.
Speaking at the awards, Skytrax chief executive officer Edward Plaisted said: “To be voted by customers as the world’s Best Airport four years in succession is a most remarkable achievement for Singapore Changi Airport, and is a clear testament to the airport’s popularity amongst air travellers.”
“We do not take this recognition for granted; it is the extraordinary effort and commitment of the entire airport community that drives Changi’s success,” said Lee Seow Hiang, CEO at Changi Airport Group.
The awards are based on Skytrax’s annual global airport customer satisfaction survey of 13.25 million customer nominations across 106 nationalities and included 550 airports worldwide. The survey evaluates customer satisfaction across 39 key areas such as service and product from ease of transfer, shopping, immigration and passenger facilities, among others.
