Singapore-based Banyan Tree Holdings announced on Wednesday (11 October) that it will operate its first resort in its home market in addition to the 43 existing resorts in 25 other countries, reported the Business Times.
Expected to open in 2023, the eco-friendly resort in Mandai will form part of an integrated nature and wildlife project in an area spanning 4.6ha. It will be located in the region’s eastern end, where there are existing facilities that cater to wildlife parks like the Singapore Zoo. These facilities will be relocated to make way for the resort.
Owned by Mandai Park Holdings (MPH), the resort is the first-of-its-kind to offer full-service accommodation to visitors.
It will come with a hotel that comprises a total of 400 rooms, which is the maximum capacity established by an earlier environmental impact assessment. This is to make sure that the facility can coexist harmoniously with the surrounding flora.
Moreover, the resort will be limited to four levels and its height will be lower than 21 metres to respect existing tree canopies. There will also be a minimum 15-metre buffer zone of retained flora between the project and the reservoir.
These are among the design and operational plans for the resort jointly undertaken by MPH and Banyan Tree Holdings. They made sure to consider Mandai’s environmental importance.
“This stay-over experience forms an integral part of our overall vision for the Mandai nature and wildlife precinct — to inspire guests to value and conserve biodiversity through memorable experiences,” said MPH’s group chief executive Mike Barclay.
“Together, we hope to provide guests with a memorable stay that highlights Banyan Tree’s signature hospitality experience with a green conscience,” added Banyan Tree executive chairman Ho Kwon Ping.
