Centurion Corp’s 8,600-bed Westlite Tuas dormitory will cease operations as its lease is set to expire on 30 January 2018, revealed an SGX filing on Wednesday (1 November).
The land occupied by the property in 90 Tuas South Avenue 9 was rented out to the firm under a 3+3+3-year lease from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). It was supposed to expire on 30 April 2017 but the Ministry of National Development (MND) granted a nine-month extension.
Centurion Corp had submitted an application for an additional lease extension to MND, but it declined as the site occupied by the dormitory is needed for redevelopment.
“The company is in the process of making arrangements to move workers to other worker dormitories owned by the group as well as to a pre-arranged dormitory nearby with available bed capacity. Concurrently, we are working with the BCA on the reinstatement and return of the land by 30 January 2018.”
Sited on a 40,349 sq m land, the purpose-built worker accommodation has a gross floor area of 55,995 sq m.
In 2010, it received the BCA Green Mark Gold Award for its eco-friendly design and green features like greywater recycling, use of natural light and utilisation of sustainable materials in its construction.
