UOL Group has transformed 592 sq ft of retail space at its United Square shopping mall into a study area for students to do their homework, revision and hold project discussions.
Specifically designed to provide a “holistic environment for school-going children and teenagers”, the study room (pictured) is well-equipped with comfortable seats, tables and a “de-stress” corner, which allows students to have some fun in-between for wefies or selfies.
“We want to provide a conducive environment for students to concentrate and study in. We have put in conscious effort into the design of the study room to achieve this objective,” said Patricia Kwek, Assistant General Manager (Advertising & Promotions) at UOL.
In fact, the study room was conceptualised by a student who used to attend enrichment classes at the centre.
“I used to study at F&B outlets when I was preparing for my ‘O’ levels. The lighting was inadequate, and from time to time, I will be asked to leave. This space that I have designed provides a cosy feel for students who prefer to study out of their homes. You get to enjoy the best of both worlds, out of the house, in a mall where food and drinks are easily available,” revealed the 16-year-old student.
The study room is United Square’s latest initiative at bringing more value to its shoppers. In a statement, UOL said it will introduce more value-added facilities in the mall, which is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary.
To date, United Square features dedicated spaces for amenities like a reading room, as well as play and relax corners.
The pro-family mall is also the first in Singapore to dedicate prime retail space for a nursing room for mothers, with the spacious area boasting a comprehensive range of facilities, including a feeding area, hot and cold water dispensers, three lockable cubicles, as well as a cosy waiting area for fathers.
