The authorities unveiled on Wednesday (June 7) the details of Canopy Park, which will house the recreation and leisure attractions at the $1.7 billion Jewel at Changi Airport, reported TODAYonline.
Anticipated to open in early-2019, the facility located at Jewel’s highest level (fifth floor) will span 14,000 sq m, which is equal to 11 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
It will come with mazes, slides, walking trails and lush indoor gardens as well as sky nets hanging 25m above ground, where visitors can walk and view all the way down to the ground floor.
But its most impressive features are the 40m-high Rain Vortex (pictured) and 50m-long Canopy Bridge with see-through flooring in the middle, leading to an adrenaline-filled view of the first level.
Aside from housing one of Singapore’s biggest indoor collection of flora in custom-built gardens, the Topiary Walk and Petal Garden, Canopy Park’s open play areas for kids will also come with Foggy Bowls that release mist so children will feel they are frolicking among clouds.
Located in front of Changi Airport’s Terminal 1, Jewel at Changi Airport will also contain a hotel with 130 rooms plus 300 retail outlets and eateries.
Designed by world-famous architect Moshe Safdie, the dome-shaped structure made of steel and glass with a total area of 134,000 sq m is poised to become an iconic landmark in the area and a world-class lifestyle destination in Singapore.
This edifice is envisioned as a place where “Singapore meets the world, and the world meets Singapore”, said Jewel Changi Airport Development’s CEO Hung Jean.
Jointly developed by Changi Airport Group and CapitaLand Mall Asia, Jewel was conceptualised by a group of consultancy firms from Britain, France, Germany, The Netherlands and Singapore, including local architect RSP.
