The Standard Hotels and Residences, a boutique hotel brand that was founded in West Hollywood in 1999, is poised to expand into Singapore as early as 2019.
Currently, the brand has opened five hotels in New York, Miami Beach and Los Angeles. It has also secured deals to set-up five additional hotels, including two in Thailand and another in London.
Overall, The Standard is targeting to add 15 new hotels over the next five years, with Singapore identified as one of the key global locations for its expansion plans.
Other major cities or countries the brand is targeting include Berlin, Paris, Milan, Lisbon, Prague, Madrid, Chicago, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Dubai, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Phuket, Hua Hin, Jakarta and Bali.
Thai developer Sansiri has acquired a 35 percent stake in The Standard’s parent firm for US$58 million. The hotel brand is known for hosting high-profile events, such as the annual Met Gala after party held at The Top of The Standard, as well as famous runway shows.
Meanwhile, The Standard intends to hold the Asian debut of the One Night app in Bangkok, then later launch it in Singapore next year.
The hotel booking app will let users compare same-day room prices across 15 major cities like New York, Los Angeles, Miami and London. It also gives users an hourly experiential timeline to maximise their hotel stay experience with insider tips on what to do in a particular hotel and within the vicinity.
Touted as the first hotel distribution platform developed by an independent hospitality management firm, One Night was named one of the 50 best new travel apps in 2017 by Travel & Leis.
