Singapore’s first high-rise project that houses companies from the metal, machinery and timber (MMT) industries is expected to be completed by 2020, reported the Business Times.
Dubbed TimMac@Kranji, the first-of-its-kind development has a plot ratio of 2.26, site area of 5.97ha and gross floor area (GFA) of 134,620 sq m.
Pursuant to this, JTC announced on Wednesday (31 January) that it has teamed up with the Singapore Timber Association (STA) and Singapore Cranes Association (SCA) to provide special infrastructure and shared services there.
The authorities have also worked together with industry groups Singapore Structural Steel Society and Singapore Metal and Machinery Association to make sure the premises and facilities there will be able to satisfy the present and future operational needs of MMT firms.
In fact, tenants will be able to benefit from shared services such as saw-milling, warehousing and chemical treatment. The units’ ceilings also have a height of up to 12 metres and floors are capable of accommodating overhead cranes and heavy machinery thanks to their maximum load capacity of 50 kiloNewtons per sq m.
Specifically, companies involved in the metals trade will occupy a four-storey wing, while those specialising in wood will be housed in a six-level wing.
Unit sizes start from 1,200 sq m, but SMEs can occupy adjacent units and expand up to 4,000 sq m due to the modular design of the premises.
This gives occupants the “flexibility to configure their operational spaces according to their needs, and to consolidate multiple sites into a single location to improve operational efficiency”, JTC said.
According to Ministry of Trade & Industry and Ministry of National Development Senior State Minister Dr Koh Poh Koon, the clustering of firms from the MMT industries in the same facility will make it easier for these entities to “collaborate and find solutions to enhance their productivity and optimise space usage”.
Among the 22 firms that have already agreed to occupy units in TimMac@Kranji are Thiam Soon Woodproducts as well as Huasing Construction and Trading, a heavy machinery and equipment company.
