The Ministry of Law is currently upgrading and expanding the Maxwell Chambers dispute resolution complex in a bid to transform it into the world’s first smart hearing facility.
This includes the future Maxwell Chambers Suites, which will triple the existing capacity and add 120,000 sq ft of space to the four-storey building that was established in 2010 as the first global integrated dispute resolution complex.
Upon its completion by 2019, there will be 50 new offices across four levels that will house arbitration chambers and international dispute resolution institutions, as well as law firms and ancillary services.
In addition, Maxwell Chambers and the upcoming suites will feature a smart concierge and a robot called Max that will deliver files and food during hearings and meetings.
This can be controlled via a smartphone app, which will also be used to gain access to secure offices and hearing rooms. Users can also control room settings like lighting and air-conditioning, as well as request for secretariat services such as photocopying. There is also a real-time itemised billing so clients can keep track of their expenses.
These smart technologies are being jointly developed by Singapore start-ups Habitap and Techmetics, while the smart solutions will be co-developed with users and implemented by end-2018.
“Maxwell Chambers is today one of the world’s best dispute resolution facilities,” said Senior Minister of State for Law and Finance Indranee Rajah, who launched the “Smart Maxwell” initiative, which is supported by Enterprise Singapore.
“However, we are not content to leave it at that. In order to not just stay ahead of the competition, but also be the global standard bearer, we must be prepared to take bold steps, push boundaries, leverage technology, and create a unique experience,” she added.
