Frasers Hospitality, Frasers Property Group’s hospitality arm, targets to grow its footprint in Europe by leveraging its Capri by Frasers and Malmaison brands, reported The Business Times.
Guus Bakker, chief executive officer (Europe, Middle East & Africa) for Frasers Hospitality, revealed plans to expand the Capri brand “to major and secondary cities” within Western Europe.
“We would hope to add another 10 (under Capri) in those countries where we already have a presence over the next three to five years.”
The group is specifically looking at the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium as well as other cities in Germany, such as Dusseldorf, Munich and Cologne.
Frasers Hospitality also plans to increase the number of hotels under its Malmaison and Hotel du Vin brands to 50 in Ireland and the United Kingdom over the next three years.
It acquired the Malmaison and Hotel du Vin brands via the £363.4 million (S$626.7 million) purchase of the Malmaison Hotel du Vin (MHDV) group in June 2015.
Delivering 29 hotels across the two upscale boutique brands, the purchase effectively doubled Frasers Hospitality’s presence in Europe at the time to more than 4,000 keys.
Frasers Hospitality has since grown the two brands’ footprint to 39 hotels, including five in the pipeline. Of these, 19 are under the Hotel du Vin brand and 20 under Malmaison.
“The focus will be to grow Malmaison to a portfolio that gives economies of scale,” said Bakker, noting that this will reap synergies and operational efficiencies. “We continue to look for new opportunities.”
Although there are no plans to take the Malmaison brand of hotels to Asia, he believes that the region will be a viable market for the brand in time to come.
