The public has been given the opportunity to tour Changi Airport’s new Terminal 4 (T4) until 20 August before operations officially start later this year, reported Channel NewsAsia.
On Monday (7 August), Changi Airport Group (CAG) launched an open house that lets registered guests explore the terminal from 9am to 6pm daily. The management estimates that about 1,500 people will visit every hour for a total of 15,000 visitors for the first day of the event.
Guests are touring T4 via a mobile application created for the open house that gives info on the terminal’s various features, including artworks. The objective of this is to let potential travellers acquaint themselves with the new terminal’s facilities, said the management.
These include start-to-end self-service systems that enables travellers to check in, deposit their luggage and pass through immigration via automated systems.
According to Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan, he has gotten good feedback from the guests, many of whom are eagerly anticipating T4’s official opening.
Even though the sector has remained a “bright spark” in the city-state’s economic industries, in order to compete with other regional aviation hubs, he said that “Singapore must keep picking up the pace.”
Spanning 225,000 sqm, the two-storey T4 is the smallest terminal in Changi Airport. While it is only about half the size of Terminal 3, it is capable of accommodating 16 million passengers per annum or about 70 percent of T3’s capacity.
Thanks to its automated systems, the new terminal can operate at full capacity with 10 percent fewer manpower than T3, added Poh Li San, Vice President of the terminal’s Programme Management Office.
