JTC is revamping 13 more colonial bungalows in Seletar Aerospace Park for office, retail and F&B use, with completion targeted by 2019, reported the New Paper.
In line with this, the government agency on Tuesday (16 Oct) launched a request-for-interest for businesses that want to occupy the heritage properties.
The conserved bungalows will join four similar properties that were refurbished as F&B spaces and opened in 2017 at The Oval, the aerospace park’s food and lifestyle hub.
JTC said it has decided to undertake The Oval’s Phase 2 after good response to the first one. During weekends, up to 3,000 people visit its existing F&B cluster consisting of The Summerhouse, Youngs Bar and Restaurant, Wheeler’s Estate and Di Wei Teochew Restaurant.
The Straits Times also learned that overhead costs for one eatery has reached up to six digits, with rental only accounting for a small portion of that amount. The operator also shared that the number of people who visited his restaurant jumped by about 80 percent per annum since the restaurant opened in late-2016.
Overall, there are 32 heritage colonial bungalows in Seletar Aerospace Park, including the 17 refurbished ones. As such, there are still 15 units that are currently unoccupied. There are also 130 other residential colonial bungalows in Seletar outside the aerospace park.
JTC is spearheading the development of the park, which contains Seletar Airport and the 32 colonial bungalows. More than 60 local and multinational aerospace firms also operate there.
Meanwhile, JTC plans to set up gathering points and historical storyboards along the National Parks Board’s (NParks) existing Round Island Route over the next three years for pedestrians and cyclists.
The route will run from Rower’s Bay in Lower Seletar Reservoir Park until Piccadilly along Seletar Aerospace Drive.
This project will be carried out with the help of NParks, the Seletar Hills Estate Residents’ Association (SHERA) and the National Heritage Board.
