Various programmes and activities are planned to attract more Singaporeans, who accounted for half of the 12 million visitors in 2018.
Gardens by the Bay has been adding new attractions and facilities in the hopes of attracting more visitors and becoming more inclusive, reported The New Paper.
One such facility is the 5,000 sq m Bayfront Plaza. Located next to the Bayfront MRT station, the newly-opened area is part of the nature park’s efforts to expand its non-ticketed spaces, as well as line-up of events for visitors.
Bayfront Pavilion, a 2,000 sq m events space, is also being offered rent-free for community organisations’ events.
Alongside these facilities, the Gardens will also have a 1,500 sq m ticketed attraction called the Floral Fantasy which features a 4D multi-sensory ride named Flight of the Dragonfly and over 3,000 plants spread across four garden landscapes.
Active Garden, a green public space for visitors of all ages, will also be opened next year.
Rounding off the list of new attractions and facilities at Gardens by the Bay is the Weekend Market. Featuring 30 stalls, it will kick off this Friday (19 April).
In addition, visitors can look forward to a variety of free events this year. This includes free admission to the Flower Dome for Pioneer and Merdeka generations (Singapore Citizens in their 60s and 70s), and a Toy Story-inspired sound and light show, both beginning in June.
More programmes and activities are planned for the rest of the year to attract more Singaporeans, who enjoyed discounted prices for ticketed attractions and accounted for 50 percent of the 12 million visitors in 2018.
Gardens by the Bay’s chief executive Felix Loh says visitors to the Gardens have increased by about 1.5 million every year. However, “a lot of people still associate Gardens by the Bay with our Supertrees and the two domes alone”.
Currently, about 95 percent of the main Bay South Area does not require a ticket for entry. With the addition of new community spaces and free events in the pipeline, Loh is hopeful that more people will realise that the Gardens offers way more than that.
